1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling the i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ an excellent choice for people who want a hands-off, fully automated cleaning experience but don't mind having to empty their dust bin manually when it is full.
Both robots do well cleaning up surface debris from carpets and hard floors, and they're excellent in getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home to aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean up efficiently. The i3+ doesn't have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or any other top-rated robots that we test. It can be stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between surfaces, such as hardwood and rug.
iRobot suggests cleaning the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it might come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dustbin and filter clear so they aren't clogged by dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is depleted, it returns to its docking station, automatically empties its trash into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning where it began. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes about three hours to fully recharge.
2. iRobot i7+ Roomba
The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the latest technology. It's self-charging and self-navigating. the most crucial feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba I7+ can better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and direct your robot by voice or via the app.
In our tests, the i7+ was more agile and faster than our second-placed model and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surface kinds including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin, which eliminates major sources of maintenance and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.
We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to start, stop, or pause cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room and to vacuum a particular area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. After connecting to these services, we were able communicate with the i7+ using voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and evaluating the performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an all-sports car in a world of vacuums powered by cordless that resemble minivans and buses. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, but it is also compact enough to fit on a coffee table or bookcase.
The V10 is powered by a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy that can provide power that is not fading for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then releases fresh air into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets, and then pick up large dust or crumbs. It comes with three suction settings to match the task being performed. It is able to quickly switch from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum, and vice versa.
This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours and offers easy access to two attachments and the clip for a wand. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons, that require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The V10's main drawback is its limited run time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. This is an average, not an exceptional, time to run the battery-powered cordless vacuum. It's enough time to clean the typical home but not enough to reach every spot. (A second time generally works). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeable superior on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's a great option for those who don't have lots of money to invest in a robot. It could pick up the majority of types of debris in our tests and would often go over the same area many times for an efficient clean. Its flat front end helps to get into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice touch.
Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the mapping capability of more sophisticated models like our top picks such as the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. As a result, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords or low furniture, and it often will run out of battery before returning to its original location.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects, as it has fewer components that require regular maintenance It also comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is better at moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges quicker.
The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips and can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistance. It's also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and can perform better on floors with bare or low-pile.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a well-known brand in home electronics. It's not surprising that they are one of the top makers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard technology to aid in navigation and obstacles avoidance.
The app provides plenty of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers mopping water levels, behavior modification, docking frequency settings, and much more. The app is simple to navigate and use as are other Samsung devices.
In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it didn't do particularly well at avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks which was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models that we tested, and this could be a deal breaker for some buyers.
The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that can be accessed via the app, and you can also set up a live streaming from the robot's cleaning station. The app also makes it easy to manually steer the robot if needed. For instance, my living room rug has a darkly colored border that tends to cause confusion for other robots I've tested. However, the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, without registering it as an incline. The ability to program a cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
